Frequently Asked Questions - Table Of Contents:

1. How Is The "math orientation course" Different From The Math Content Of The Main SAT And ACT Courses?

It's All In The Treatment Of The Background Math Skills!
Background Skills Defined: For the purposes of the SAT and ACT quantitative sections background skills include: arithmetic, algebra, geometry, counting methods, properties of numbers and the specific vocabulary associated with them.

Think of it this way:

"Math Orientation" - From the background math skills forward to the SAT or ACT test question.

Our "Math Orientation Course" is a math course designed to help you with SAT and ACT (and other tests ....) The environment is a math class.

Our "Math Orientation Course" begins with the background skills in isolation and moves forward to the SAT/ACT question types. In our "Math Orientation Course" an approximate breakdown would be:

80% background math skills and 20% focus on SAT or ACT questions.

SAT And ACT Courses - From the test question backwards to the background math skills

Our SAT and ACT courses are SAT and ACT specific training programs where the focus is on the specific format, content, answer choices, and strategies designed to answer that specific question type. The environment is that of a SAT or ACT class.

Our SAT and ACT Courses - Mastering The SAT, One Weekend SAT Intensive, One Weekend ACT Intensive, SAT Verbal, SAT Math.

Although these courses include a discussion of background skills where necessary, the focus of these courses is the specific multiple choice format of the SAT or ACT. For a complete discussion of these courses and the approaches taught, we encourage you to visit our SAT Course Information page or our ACT Course Information page.

Our SAT and ACT courses BEGIN with an introduction to the multiple choice format of the SAT or ACT question types and teach various approaches to solving these problems. Although background math skills are explored, these courses are not for the specific purpose of reviewing SAT and ACT background skills.

In our SAT and ACT courses an approximate breakdown is: 80% SAT or ACT questions and 20% background math skills.

2. What Is The Purpose Of The "math orientation course?"

The "Math Orientation Course" is a math course that has been designed specifically to help you with the SAT and ACT.

The "Math Orientation Course" is a "stand alone" background math skills course. It is a skills, review and quantitative orientation course designed for people who want to increase their comfort level with the background math skills (how do we solve it?) and quantitative vocabulary (what does this concept mean?) that are assumed by many SAT and ACT test questions. These topics usually do not extend beyond what is commonly taught in the early years of high school math.

In the "Math Orientation Course" the math is introduced, reviewed and reinforced outside the context of SAT and ACT multiple choice questions. We also work very hard to help you "redefine questions" so that you understand what you are really being asked to do.

The "Math Orientation Course" will END with an introduction to the format of the SAT and ACT math question formats.

3. How Can The "math orientation course" Be Used?

The "Math Orientation Course" may be used as either a "stand alone course" ($300) or as an option ($150) for those who take any or our SAT or ACT courses.

Stand Alone Course - If taken as a "stand alone" course the Math Orientation course will increase the value to you of home study.
